Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette review + swatches!

(updated 13/06/2016, comments will be in bold) Yes guys, another Jeffree Star blog post! I really wanna get this out as it is fairly new (wouldn't kill to review something on time lmao) in the market!
I received this on 7 June! I was so excited to receive it because this was a super huge purchase for me personally. I've never spent this much on a single product! Even my Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette was cheaper! This is also coincidentally the only product that could limit my spending... After splurging on this palette, I've not bought any product, HONEST TO GOD. It's safe to say that this is my hugest purchase of 2016 lmao.

Anyway jumping in!

I bought this palette off... yes, Carousell! If you're a frequent reader or have seen any of my recent reviews, you'd know I get majority of my Western makeup from Carousell cos we simply don't have it here in Singapore! To my knowledge, this palette is only available on the Jeffree Star Official Website and nowhere else! It retails for USD45 on the site excluding shipping (free for purchases above $100), and in Singapore on Carousell, SGD80 inclusive of shipping! You're getting 0.09 oz/ 2.52g of product, tho I'm not sure if it's per pan or everything together hmmm... (LOL) This palette has a shelf life of 12 months!

Hopping onto the product itself! (this post is picture heavy so be prepared!)

So the box the palette was in is a hot pink with the signature Jeffree Star logo embossed in gold right at the centre, followed by Jeffree Star Cosmetics Beauty Killer blah blah you can see the photo lol.

this photo was physically taken, just cropped!

At the back of the box, the thing that stood out to me was the cute little printed knife! SLAYED. The back of the box is also where you'll find the claims, and the ingredients list!

The actual palette, to my surprise, is a baby pink! I would think he mimicked the box but whatever they're still cute! The palette itself is also a cardboard with strong magnetic closure! This time only the logo and Jeffree Star Cosmetics are embossed in gold. The Beauty Killer in cursive font is embossed in black!

At the back of the palette, however, is just a serial code I believe. Nothing else!

Onto the inside! There is a huge ass mirror, which is a plus point, as you can see your entire face! The 'lid part' which houses the mirror is baby pink, while the base which houses the eyeshadows is gold!
Now, the palette has 10 shades with pans larger than life! The photo below shows all the ten shades followed by some close-ups!

In the photo below, I have compared single shadows from few brands! Brands are stated in the caption!

Anastasia single shadow and Makeup Geek single shadow!
Essence single shadow and Catrice single shadow (both depotted)

Now, on the back of the box, it says '10 jaw-dropping shades. Vegan. Cruelty-free. Long-lasting. Buttery and delicious. Experience the formula.'
On the Jeffree site, the other claims are 'Extreme pigment. There are 3 formulas in this palette: matte, frost and glitter.' Let's see how true these claims are!

These are the swatches of the ten shades in the palette in order! These were swatched over bare skin (without primer) some had to be layered but I'll go more in depth into it in the individual shades! As the site does not offer any individual shade descriptions, I will be taking descriptions from Jeffree's palette reveal video, which you can find here!
Also, I would like to set a little disclaimer: my swatches here are quite larger, so the amount of layers I took would definitely be more! The layers I counted below were strictly for opacity only!

First row L-R: Star power, Princess, Violence, Rich Bitch, Courtney
(no primer)
STAR POWER: A gorgeous hot barbie pink! This is a matte shade, which is extremely buttery and smooth! To get to the pigmentation in the photo, about 2-3 layers were required! However, this shade applied well with a brush! This shadow will stain your lids IF you layer this much (albeit mildly)! This is eye safe!
(update: this DOES NOT blend well on my eyelids, it keeps skipping, i'm not sure if it's my oily lids or?)

PRINCESS: A frosty baby pink! This has the frost formula! Good lord, this shade is soooo beautiful when swatched! I LOVE this shade in the inner corner and facial highlight! Super pretty!
(update: this shadow is still a favourite of mine! love how creamy and smooth it was and the highlight!)

VIOLENCE: A soft, iridescent purple! Jeffree also described it as a 'crushed berry dream' in the video! It has a bluish-purple iridescence! This is also another frost shade! In my opinion, this shade did not swatch well on my arm, but when used with a brush, it applied like a dream!
(update: this colour is so-so on my lids... pigmentation was average but the colour's still pretty.)

RICH BITCH: This shade is described as a metallic gold! Jeffree describes it as being 'dipped into 24 karat realness!' I'm going to assume it is a frost shade (I'm assuming, because Jeffree mentioned about there being 2 glitter shades, both of which are below!)! I had problems working with this shade because it came out all clumpy and chunky, and it really felt gritty in the pan! The glitters also flew everywhere when I was doing my eye makeup! However, the fall out may be subdued with a glitter glue! Pigmentation was good on this shade, just chunky!
(update: no no no. just no. it's too chunky, there's too much fall out, and personally, the fallout caused subtle irritation to my eye.)

COURTNEY: This shade is described as a warm terracotta colour, your perfect transition shade! Where do I begin with.. this shade is buttery smooth, it's baby butt smooth, it's everything smooth!!!!!!!!! This shade is also a perfect warm transition shade for my skin colour (NC25) to reach the above opacity, only one layer was needed!
(update: like Princess, this is still one of my favourite shadows in this palette!)

Bottom row L-R: Expensive, Confession, Vanity, China White, Black Rainbow
(no primer)
EXPENSIVE: This shade is described as a glittery teal by Jeffree Star! This shade is one of the two glitter formulas in this palette! It has excellent pigmentation and is buttery smooth! Only one layer was required to reach the above opacity! This shade is super pretty, whether worn on the entire lid or as a pop of colour (how I'm wearing it in my eye look)
(update: nope, just nope. had little fall out when i layered it heavily but similar to Rich Bitch, it irritated the crap out of my eye.)

CONFESSION: Described by Jeffree as a rusty, soft burgundy red, this shade is bound to be a must-have for grunge people! This shade is one of the frost formulas! It is extremely pigmented as well, only requiring one layer to reach the opacity in photos! I foresee myself dipping into the shade :P
(update: this shadow is extremely pigmented, but also extremely prone to fall out and it sheers out way too easily, but still ok. however, the fall out irritated my eyes as well)

VANITY: This shade is a blackened plum, as described by Jeffree! As you can probably tell by the swatch, this colour belongs to the matte formulas! This shadow was a wee bit patchy on it's first layer, albeit pigmented! To achieve even coverage and opacity in the photo, two layers were required! This shade is so pretty, I wanna slap it all over my eyes!!!!!!!
(update: super  pretty, i still love this shade! very pigmented but it does, however, go on slightly patchy on the first layer. but still a good shadow imo.)

CHINA WHITE: China White is the 'perfect highlight colour for under the brow(bone)'! This truly is a perfect shadow for highlighting my brow bone, at least for my NC25 skin! It is extremely pigmented and buttery smooth, and it only required one layer for the above opacity! It is hands down the MOST creamy shade in the palette can I get a fucking amen?
(update: yep, still love this shadow! super duper love it!)

BLACK RAINBOW: Last but definitely not the least, we have Black Rainbow, which is a black shadow with rainbow glitters in it! Needless to say, this is the other glitter formula! Can we just take a moment to talk about how the glitters in the shadow actually adhere to the skin and shadow itself, and is extremely visible??? It was so sparkly that my camera couldn't focus, but in real life, GOOD LORD, this shadow is pigmented as FUCK. You can pat it on or swipe it, both motions will give you the glitters! Such an excellent shade, I can't wait to use it in my eye looks!
(update: can't say much for this shadow, since I don't wear black on a daily basis!)

Overall, I really don't know how to feel about this palette! More shadows were harder to work with, I needed a lot more effort to get them rolling! Super in love with this palette, I can't wait to use it in the future! This palette is definitely not for the faint-hearted! If you are a neutral person/lover, I highly suggest you skip this palette. Maybe the new Modern Renaissance palette by Anastasia would be more for you! This is for my brights lovers out there who aren't afraid! I recommend! To end this post, I will share with you an eye look I did using this palette!
(As more shadows were tougher for me to work with, i have decided to sell this palette away! Sorry to all the JSC lovers! I do still love his lipsticks!)

In this look, I used Courtney, Star Power and Vanity in the crease, Rich Bitch on the inner and Violence on the outer part of the lid! I placed Expensive on the lower lash line, and if you squint, you can see that baby pink highlight coming thru', which is from Princess!

A few YouTubers I've seen who have done looks on their channel using this palette are Jeffree, MannyMua and Jkissa! Feel free to click on their names to be directed to their tutorials!

Hope you enjoyed this review and have a good day wherever you are!
